9/19/08 - Badges: As a
reminder, all employees who took a six month leave were
required to turn in both their airport and AirTran badges at
the completion of their last trip. If you have not done so,
please contact the company immediately and make arrangement
to have your badges sent back.
The company may issue discipline for those flight attendants
who failed to comply with this policy. The company has
requested that all badges be returned by Monday, September
22, 2008.
If you have any questions, please contact a base manager or
supervisor.
8/29/08 Update: Buddy
passes will be available to those flight attendants who have
already volunteered to take leave. The company is currently
working with the Pass Bureau on a process for buddy pass
payments in advance. This will probably be done by credit
card.
We have been asked to clarify that in the future when
voluntary leaves are offered this benefit will most likely
not be available.
Employees who have volunteered to take leave during the
partial month of September 2008 will not be required to turn
in their ID badges to Inflight.
This does not mean that off-duty employees may bypass
airport security. Misuse of the badges may result in
termination of employment.
We are awaiting the company's response to the issue of
badges which expire during the six-month extended leave.
8/27/08 Update: The union
met with the company yesterday and presented them with a
list of issues that have come up regarding the voluntary
leaves that begin next week. We have asked them to address,
immediately, the following issues:
Insurance - how will flight attendants on leave pay their
share?
Turning in badges for those at virtual bases - where and how
is this to be accomplished?
Buddy passes on AirTran - can they be used while on leave?
Passes on other airlines - how can these be used while on
leave?
We impressed upon management the urgency of a reply as the
leaves begin next week. We were promised an answer by the
end of this week and will pass that information on to you
when we receive it.
8/4/08 Update: As you
know, in response to the Company’s request for pay
concessions (cuts) the Union held membership meetings to
obtain the position of the flight attendants and determine
what issues the membership felt should be addressed in our
talks with the Company.
We compiled a list of these items and presented them to the
Company about two weeks ago and had some preliminary
discussions with the Company about these issues.
Today we met with the Company and were informed that the
Company is withdrawing its request for pay concessions. This
does not affect the planned furloughs and leaves of absence.
The reduction in the flight attendant work force is still
going to occur as previously explained.
We do not know exactly what prompted the Company to withdraw
its request for pay concessions. However, the fact that the
dispatchers and the mechanics both rejected the proposed pay
cuts to their work groups certainly played a part in this
decision.
Therefore, for the time being there will be no more meetings
with the Company concerning pay cuts. If and when the
Company approaches us with a new proposal we will notify you
and make sure you are fully informed of any such proposal.
