Helpful Hints for Flight Attendants

·         If you put baby powder on collars, it's easier to remove makeup when washing. Starches, put baby powder on the damp collar, rub in and then steam ironed it until goes into the fabric.

·         Pack light! For a four day trip, pack one pair of jeans or shorts, a few shirts and some tennis shoes. It’s easier to carry, pack, and lift a lighter load into an overhead bin! Roll your clothes for extra space in your bag!

·         Budget wisely! Remember to budget according to this formula: 70 hours X $18.80. Keep a little extra cash on you just in case.

·         Remember to eat! It’s easy to fly three or four legs and realize you haven't eaten. Take care of yourself.

·         Always be early. You can never be too early.

·         Take note of the hotel room numbers your fellow crew members are staying in on a layover. You never know when you might need to contact one of them.

·         Don’t take things personally. Pick your battles wisely.

·         Always make a point to introduce yourself to the flight deck crew, whether you are working that particular trip or not.

·         This is the easiest job in the world! Don’t make it harder than it has to be.

·         Stay away from soft drinks on the plane. They cause bloating and give you gas.

·         Pack something that can be worn in either hot or cold climates. You could be in FLL one day and FNT the next.

·         Pay attention to the phone number of the hotel that is listed on your pairing sheet. If you are a new L-One and aren’t sure how to find the hotel van at the airport of your layover city, you can call the hotel for help and directions. You can also ask the CSA meeting your flight.

·         Use good judgment every day. When you are in doubt, and the L-One or the Captain.

·         Treat others like you would like to be treated!

·         Always pack a swimsuit!

·         Drink a lot of water. Dehydration can make you feel ill.

·         Enjoy your flight benefits on your days off.

·         Don’t’ be afraid to “slam click” if you need to rest.

·         Stay safe on your overnights. Don’t go out alone.

·         No matter how long you do this job, you will learn something new everyday. Keep and open mind!

·         Don’t plan on leaving town right after your OE. You never know when your qualification has been entered into the system.

·         When in doubt, ask your supervisor.

·         Quickly learn the difference between fact and fiction.

·         Don’t buddy bid immediately after getting your first hard line. There are lots of fish in the sea.

·         ALWAYS bid the lines you want, no matter how junior you are. You never know when someone is going to misbid.

·         If there is an accident, regardless of the carrier, of if AirTran is in the news, call home and let your family and friends know you are OK.

·         Double check to make sure you lock your hotel room door before going to sleep at night.

·         Occasionally read your manual and stay knowledgeable of policies and procedures.

·         When packing food or toiletries, use plastic bags in case of an explosion from pressurization.

·         Take pride in your work; deliver the best customer service to customers and customers alike.

·         Be on time! For the shuttle, to the aircraft, and for all check ins.

·         If you are having a bad day, remember how hard you worked to earn your wings!
