Concession
and LOA Updates
9/26/08 -
The company has discovered that
some of the flight attendants who began leave in September
had uniform deductions taken from their paycheck. This is
inconsistent with the commitments the company made, and
payroll is working on correcting the errors now (the amounts
deducted will be forwarded to the flight attendants).9/20/08 - Dues: As a
reminder, it is a flight attendants responsibility to ensure
that his/her union dues and fees are paid in a timely
manner. As of the ratification of the 2005 contract, all
flight attendants are required to pay a monthly fee as a
contribution for the administration of the Agreement and for
representation.
Council 57 suggests that you review each and every pay check
to ensure your dues are deducted from your pay if you are on
payroll deduction. If you do not receive a pay check for a
pay period, then union dues have not been deducted and AFA
will send you a bill. Also, union dues are the last item to
be deducted from you pay. If you paycheck falls to $0,
please ensure that the full $21.50 has been deducted for
union dues.
If you pay your dues by mail, you must mail your payment
each month. Also, if you are on a promissory note (payment
plan), in order to remain in good standing, you must make a
payment every month. Terms of your payments can be found on
your promissory agreement.
If you are out of work for any reason (OJI, Medical,
Voluntary leave, etc.), you are required by AFA to pay dues
for the first ninety days of your leave. Again, AFA will
send you a bill if dues are not collected by the company.
You have the option of mailing your payment in or you can
pay your dues online at www.afanet.org and follow the pay
your dues online link on the left side of the page.9/19/08 - Badges: As a
reminder, all employees who took a six month leave were
required to turn in both their airport and AirTran badges at
the completion of their last trip. If you have not done so,
please contact the company immediately and make arrangement
to have your badges sent back.
The company may issue discipline for those flight attendants
who failed to comply with this policy. The company has
requested that all badges be returned by Monday, September
22, 2008.
If you have any questions, please contact a base manager or
supervisor. 8/29/08 Update: Buddy
passes will be available to those flight attendants who have
already volunteered to take leave. The company is currently
working with the Pass Bureau on a process for buddy pass
payments in advance. This will probably be done by credit
card.
We have been asked to clarify that in the future when
voluntary leaves are offered this benefit will most likely
not be available.
Employees who have volunteered to take leave during the
partial month of September 2008 will not be required to turn
in their ID badges to Inflight.
This does not mean that off-duty employees may bypass
airport security. Misuse of the badges may result in
termination of employment.
We are awaiting the company's response to the issue of
badges which expire during the six-month extended leave. Read

ANNOUNCING
THE ARRIVAL OF “H2O”!!!
Water is essential to every living
thing. It makes the difference between life and death. Oxygen is used to support
and give life. We as flight attendants certainly know that when the use of the
oxygen masks become necessary in flight, that we must first insure that WE have
oxygen before we can assist others. It takes two, so take a deep breath! Help is
on the way!!! Let’s
join together to help each other!!Learn more here!
UPDATE - Home Reserve
After the Union pointed out that it is a violation of the FARs
to use the time a flight attendant spends on home reserve to
satisfy legal rest requirements, the Company has agreed to alter
their practice and now follow the FARs. When assigned to any
reserve period, a flight attendant is not "free from all
restraint by the certificate holder, including freedom from
present responsibility for work should the occasion arise" and
therefore, time spent assigned to reserve periods cannot be used
to satisfy legal rest
requirements. Specific violations of the FARs relating to this
issue have
been brought to the attention of the FAA.
