The negotiating
committee just completed the second round of contract negotiations with the
Company.

We now have a tentative agreement on Section 15 (Moving Expenses), Section
22 (No Strike/No Lockout), Section 23 (Savings Clause), and Section 26
(Union Security and Dues Check Off).
Having come to an agreement on four sections in only two rounds of meeting
is more than we anticipated going into this process. While we hope we can
continue this pace, the more contentious and complicated sections, most
notably Section 2 (Compensation) and Section 5 (Scheduling), have yet to be
discussed.
Our next round of meetings with the Company is April 15th – 17th. We also
have scheduled meetings for April 29th – May 1st, May 13th – 15th, and June
17th – 19th.
The committee will continue to negotiate with the Company to try and come to
an agreement on every section of the contract. In addition, the Union will
be proposing new sections to address various issues that have arisen since
the last contract was ratified. After an agreement is reached, the entire
proposed contract will be presented to the membership for an up or down
vote. Of course, before any vote by the membership, the committee will hold
several question and answer sessions for the membership.
To date, the committee has put out three (3) surveys to the membership. We
greatly appreciate those of you who took the time to respond to the survey.
It is quite possible that we will put out an additional survey or two which
would be specific issue oriented. We encourage all Flight Attendants to
continue to provide us with feedback and suggestions. The most efficient way
to contact us is through E-mail. However, feel free to put any suggestions
in the Union’s lock box or visit the Union’s web site (www.afaairtran.com)
where you send us your questions or comments.
The quickest and most cost efficient method for the Union to communicate
information to the flight attendants is through E-mail. If you have not
already done so, please visit the Union’s web site and sign up for the
E-mail alerts. We will continue to provide updates, both hard copy and
through E-mail alerts, as to the progress (or lack thereof) of contract
negotiations.
Please show your support for the Union and the negotiating committee by
wearing your AFA pin. We need your visible support to let the Company know
that we are united in this effort to achieve a new contract.

Are you
planning on coming to the Local 57 meeting on the 12th? Not only will it be
full of interesting information about your local and national union, but you
may walk away with a little extra cash in your pocket! Be sure and tell your
friends. The council meeting will be in Dublin room at the ATL Renaissance
Hotel. All flight attendants are welcome to attend. The meeting is scheduled
from 2pm to 4pm.
Delta flight attendants are the only major airline whose flight attendants
don’t have a union. As we gear up in our contract talks it is definitely in
our best interest to help the Delta flight attendants gain a voice at work.
This training hosted by AFA-CWA International, is a unique opportunity to
learn external organizing skills to possibly help with the Delta campaign,
that you will then be able to bring back to our carrier to help us with our
internal mobilizing committee.
Please RSVP if you will be attending to Wanda McCall at wmccall@afanet.org
or if you have any other questions to Veda Shook, AFA-CWA International Vice
President at vshook@afanet.org. The mobilizer training will be in the
DeGualle room from 9am to 5pm on March 13.
We are noticing as we spend time in the crew room and traveling from city to
city with many crews that too many of you are not wearing your union pin.
This pin should be considered part of your uniform and should be worn
whenever you wear your wings as well as on your civilian clothes whenever
you are performing union duties. You will never see one of us out without
our pins on.
This is especially important now as we are currently in negotiations with
the company. Our AFA pin is the only way, while in uniform, that we can
demonstrate to management our solidarity. This is vital to our successful
negotiations. The company must see that we are one unit and willing to stand
together to fight for the changes we are seeking.
We are constantly hearing complaints about different hotels. We are
particularly hearing dissatisfaction about the hotel in DFW. The only way we
can deal with hotel issues is to have documentation of the problems. Any
feedback you have is needed and appreciated, however, it must be specific
("I don't like the hotel" is not good enough). If you have had problems with
any hotels please go to airtrancrew.com and choose the Crew Information
Systems screen in the middle. This will allow you to make a report that is
tracked by both the company and our union hotel committee.
