What is Professional Standards?
Professional Standards (PS) offers crew members the tools and support to resolve conflict(s) amongst themselves. Minimally, PS will seek the restoration of professional conduct even if difficulties between the parties are not resolved. PS does not “fix” or change others’ behaviors.
The underlying philosophy is that Employees own the responsibility of resolving duty related conflict in the work place. All crew members must attempt to resolve the conflict by “talking it out.” If that does not produce an acceptable resolution, contact PS.
Professional Standards should be your preferred resource to resolve issues at the peer level. It is the alternative to a management “write up,” which may result in disciplinary action for both parties.
Professional Standards does not disclose anyone using the program to management or to the union. PS members will not get involved in a matter in which the company is formerly involved. We do not monitor or evaluate work performance and we do not engage in supervisory functions.
PS does guarantee confidentiality, not necessarily anonymity. Why? Circumstances of a case may make anonymity difficult, even though confidentiality is honored.
Additionally, information provided by the reported party will not be released to the reporting party unless properly authorized. Both the reporter (of the conflict) and the reported are encouraged to refrain from discussing the issue with coworkers. This means not engaging coworkers in the dispute.
Remember: Talk it out - don’t write it up.
