L-One Pay Update

Earlier this year, the Union filed an MEC/LEC grievance for L-1 pay calculations. The Company changed a long standing pay practice late last year concerning the way L-1 pay was calculated. We have met with the Company several times since the grievance was filed and felt progress was made. We elected to continue negotiations with the Company rather than rush to arbitration. An arbitration is scheduled for 1/8/2009 to resolve all other outstanding L-One pay issues.

At our meeting on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, our negotiating efforts paid off and the Company has agreed to pay L-1 pay based on credit time, not block time. That is, actual or scheduled, whichever is greater. To date, this agreement resolves the most significant portion of the grievance. This change will be made retroactive to July 1, 2008, and will be reflected in your August 10, 2008 pay. We will continue to arbitrate the L-1 pay for flight cancellations, reschedules due to irregular operations, and deadheads.

Additionally, we are working with the Company and are close to an agreement which will enable Flight Attendants to access online reports that will show what flights you were credited with L-1 pay. This will make it much easier for you to determine if you were paid for all applicable flights which you are due.

Please be advised that we have been briefed by the company on the new policy regarding requesting pay for sick days. Effective April 1, 2008, there will be a timeline in which you must submit the request, via Flica, or you will not be able to be paid for those sick days. You will have until the end of the following month to make the request for pay. Should you miss this deadline, this does not mean that you will lose sick days you have accrued. It only means you will still have them in your bank to use on a future sick call. You still have the option to not be paid for any given sick call, should you choose. Also note that even if you wait until the next month to request sick pay, only the pay available at the time of the sick call can be used. The company has instituted this timeline for administrative purposes and we feel that it is a reasonable policy.

There have been concerns with sick time pay forms and the time line for submitting these forms to receive pay. Flight attendants are not automatically paid for sick time just because you have available days in your sick bank. Please submit you sick pay requests via FLICA.

There have been a lot of staff and procedure changes taking place in the inflight payroll department. Flight attendants need to be extra diligent about keeping copies and proof of submission time for all correspondence submitted.
